I was asked to give a few words in English as well and on this occasion that we come together
for recollecting Lompo Chah and all his practices, I found it particularly important that we take the
direct teachings that lead to our own hearts and lead away from distractions, lead away from stuff
that we don't need in society or in our own lives and come back to the basics. So I was saying in
Thai that in many places all over Asia, all over Thailand and particularly in Ubon and in this
monastery, we have got a very good example of seeing essential things that really help us in
our daily life where there's so many challenges with problems in society, with lack of direct
contact to each other. For example, we spend so much time on screens and
in
a fake world, we can say, so that it's especially important that we come back to our hearts, come back
to the truth of nature as it is, whether we are aware of it or not, but in our hearts there is a very,
very pure part that we can access every now and again, whether in meditation or whether we are in
contact with other people.
When we relate to each other on a heart level, I believe that's the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.
He gave so many pointers to ways of practice, but particularly his Dhamma talks are direct and they
really reach the heart. And if we can find ways of using this direct energy of the Dhamma, then I
believe that in society, whether we are troubled with all kinds of challenges and
whether the environment changes or whether our lifestyle changes, I think then we can be at peace
and we practice the Dhamma and we are able to build a foundation for ourselves so that our life
becomes meaningful. We can do meditation courses or we can meet people that are also really full
of good qualities and we meet them in real life. We say hello and give them our own inner,
friendliness and our good energy of the heart. So that's really what I believe the practice of the
Dhamma is about, to relate to one's own heart. And I keep saying to people many times when they ask
for a blessing, please keep the Dhamma in your heart, meaning that there is something very good
in our own life already and we need to access it and make much of it and apply it, particularly
when there are challenges outside. The world is changing, the world is changing, the world is
changing very rapidly. If we can have that inner sense of peace and a stable foundation in our life,
I think we'll do a lot of service to other people at the same time and ourselves will be very happy
and inspired that we didn't waste time when things are changing so quickly. We've got an anchor and
we've got a sense of peace that's timeless and that's what the Dhamma is about. So I'd like to
offer these short summaries of what I experienced in the Dhamma.
I've explained in Thai at length and I wish everybody to keep the Dhamma in their hearts.
