in life whenever i feel like i'm developing equanimity some event makes me lose my balance
and makes me question whether i am really developing it how do i deal with this constant
self-doubt well it sounds like i don't mean to sound harsh but it sounds like you're not
really developing equanimity i mean kind of indirectly or or incidentally you are but
what's more important is that you're developing self and control and ego and delusion
and what you're experiencing is the result of that because you think i am developing
and you perceive it as something constant something sustainable something controllable
and samsara is saying no it's not samsara is showing you that it's impermanent suffering and
non-self make me lose my balance yeah the idea that you had any balance to begin with
is the problem this is the problem
here is self because a person who is enlightened is independent when there when there is a throwing
off a balance they don't see it as i am being thrown off balance they don't see it as something
that was stable being threatened because they've had it all threatened and they've come to terms
with that they've let go i think the real problem for you is seeking out equanimity
you should never seek out equanimity you should seek out wisdom which affords you
a profound sense of equanimity because true equanimity would be i'd be i'm equanimous whether
i have the equanimity or i lose it i'm equanimous about that that would be true equanimity it's
less of a feeling and more of a perspective it's based on wisdom not control so i think
your best advice is to stop fixating on equanimity i know there are some traditions that emphasize it
i think that's not great when they emphasize and try to train you to be equanimous
it should be the results not the practice
